NBCUniversal had another record-setting year at the 2022 Environmental Media Awards – an annual celebration of sustainable production and environmental messaging in the media, hosted by the Environmental Media Association.

EMA Green and Gold Seals were awarded to 59 NBCUniversal television and feature film productions – the most awarded to NBCUniversal to date, up from 46 in 2021. The EMA Green Seal program recognizes progress in sustainable production practices, including fuel reduction, reuse and recycling, sustainable building materials, LED lighting, food donations and more.

In addition to sustainable production accolades, NBCUniversal took home the award for reality television with The End Is Nye: The Volcano Paradox from Universal Television Alternative Studio and UCP, divisions of Universal Studio Group, and Fuzzy Door.

The End is Nye recently premiered on Peacock with Bill Nye as the show’s host and tour guide to...the end of the world. Nye takes viewers on a journey through the myths and realities of both natural and unnatural threats, including topics like climate change and chemical warfare.

But the show is not all doom and gloom. Nye educates viewers on the threats, how they can be prevented, and, most importantly, that we still have time to address them. The show is structured as a six-part docuseries, with Seth MacFarlane serving as executive producer.

“The goal is to get enough people to watch the show and think about an optimistic view of the future where we anticipate these global problems and do something about them,” said Nye. “There’s still time!”

Other NBCUniversal nominees recognized for environmental messaging included Jurassic World Dominion, Saturday Night Live, and Home Sweet Home.
