NBCUniversal Partners with T-Mobile for All-New “Because I’m a Veteran” One Platform Campaign – Part of NBCUniversal’s Advertising & Partnerships’ “Boots to Boardroom” Initiative
PSAs Will Highlight the Invaluable Skills of Real-Life Veteran Corporate Employees. The Company’s “BOLD Vets” Program Returns for Third Annual Veteran’s Day Event on November 11th, Deepening Comcast NBCUniversal’s Commitment to the Veteran Community
November 08, 2021
NBCUniversal announced T-Mobile as the first official launch partner for its new One Platform campaign, “Because I’m a Veteran,” which aims to shine a light on the importance of hiring Veterans and supporting the military community in post-service life. This PSA-focused effort is part of NBCUniversal’s Advertising & Partnerships’ larger “Boots to Boardroom” initiative, a first-of-a-kind mission-driven effort devoted to creating awareness of what Veterans can bring to the table in a corporate setting.
Additionally, the NBCUniversal Advertising and Partnerships BOLD Vets program, which is aimed at transforming NBCUniversal from a vet friendly to a vet-ready organization, will continue its partnership with The Veterans Network, an NBCUniversal Employee Resource Group, for its third annual Veteran’s Day Event on November 11. This event is designed to honor, educate and inspire the military community and will feature talent, industry executives, top military brass and veteran employees as they shine a spotlight on the reasons why Veterans are an asset to the organization and the industry.
“Over the past two years, BOLD Vets has helped to transform our corporate culture, empowering us to grow our veteran population. We’ve seen the tremendous value and transferrable skills veterans bring to the table and hope to attract more members of the military community to our workforce. Partnering with T-Mobile to launch Boots to Boardroom allows us to take an internal initiative and scale our impact with our partners by leveraging NBCUniversal’s One Platform, in hopes of inspiring the media, marketing, tech and creative industry at large to become vet-ready.”
-Christine Escribano, SVP, Head of One Platform Marketing, NBCUniversal
Together with T-Mobile, NBCUniversal is turning their appreciation for the military community into opportunities for Veterans and military spouses in the workplace. With this partnership, NBCUniversal and T-Mobile will donate $75,000 to Hiring Our Heroes – an organization whose mission is to connect the military community with American businesses to create economic opportunity and a strong and diversified workforce. This additional funding will support Hiring Our Heroes’ year-round hiring events, fellowship programs, as well as skilling and networking resources to empower tens of thousands of veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members to find meaningful employment opportunities.
“This Veterans Day, and every day, T-Mobile wants the military community to know just how grateful we are for their service and that we recognize the real value Veterans, and their families bring to the workforce. Our longstanding partnership with Hiring Our Heroes has helped us stay on track to hire 10,000 Veterans and their spouses by 2023 – and now we’re honored to join NBCUniversal’s campaign to encourage other companies to do the same.”
-Janice V. Kapner, T-Mobile’s Chief Communications and Brand Officer
Airing across NBCUniversal properties now through November 12, the “Because I’m a Veteran” PSAs will feature two current NBCUniversal Veteran employees as they showcase the transferrable and critical skills gained during their time in service: teamwork, leadership, discipline and resiliency. The PSAs will help audiences understand the importance of including Veterans in the workforce by spotlighting the many ways military experience can prepare and propel the workplace experience. Looking ahead to May 2022, T-Mobile will feature their own employees in the “Because I’m a Veteran” campaign.

During last year’s BOLD Vets celebration, NBCUniversal, in partnership with Comcast, announced the new Veterans Residency Program, designed for mid-to-senior level veterans who face challenges locating opportunity in the civilian workforce. This program allows two members of the military community exposure to all aspects of the Advertising and Partnerships business, with the opportunity to become a full-time member of the team. In 2015, Comcast pledged to bring 10,000 military community members on staff by the end of 2017. After exceeding, a new goal was set to bring in an additional 11,000 veterans, military spouses, National Guard and Reserve members. This announcement deepens Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to the Veteran community not just in November, but all year long.
