Telemundo’s Andrés Cantor, Rolando Cantú, and Miguel Gurwitz Earn Sports Personality Nominations
STAMFORD, Conn. – April 11, 2023 – NBC Sports earned 38 Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2022, highlighted by nominations for its coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Sunday Night Football, the 148th Kentucky Derby, golf, and more.
The announcement was made today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The winners will be announced on Monday, May 22.
Highlights of NBC Sports’ nominations:
- The XXIV Olympic Winter Games from Beijing garnered 10 nominations, tied for the most of any program;
- Sunday Night Football — primetime television’s No. 1 show — was nominated again for Outstanding Live Sports Series, which it has won 11 times in the past 14 years;
- NBC Sports received two nominations in the Outstanding Live Sports Special category for its presentations of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and the 148th Kentucky Derby;
- The George Wensel Technical Achievement Award nomination for the Rewiring the Olympics production element during the Beijing Olympics;
- Peacock earned six nominations, including Outstanding Long Documentary for Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair and Outstanding Documentary Series and Outstanding Camera Work – Long Form for Meddling;
- Mike Tirico was nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Host, after winning the Sports Emmy in the category last year, and Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-by-Play, following his first season as the play-by-play voice of Sunday Night Football;
- Cris Collinsworth, winner of 17 Sports Emmys, including last year for his SNF commentary, was nominated in the Outstanding Sports Personality – Event Analyst category for the 16th time in the past 17 years;
- Melissa Stark, in her first year as Sunday Night Football’s sideline reporter, was nominated for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter;
- Andrés Cantor (Telemundo), winner of three Sports Emmys, was nominated for Outstanding On-Air Sports Personality in Spanish, along with Telemundo Deportes colleagues Rolando Cantú and Miguel Gurwitz.
NBC Sports earned a total of 38 nominations, including six nominations for Peacock, two nominations for GOLF Channel, one nomination for NBCOlympics.com, eight nominations for Telemundo, and two nominations for NBCLX.
