Focus Features' Conclave Hits $100M at the Global Box Office

Focus Features’ “Conclave" has surpassed the $100 million mark at the global box office, marking a significant achievement for the studio and its international partners.

Directed by Edward Berger and based on Robert Harris's 2016 novel, the film delves into the intricate process of electing a new pope, with Ralph Fiennes portraying Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, who uncovers secrets among the leading candidates. 

Premiering at the 51st Telluride Film Festival,”Conclave" was released in U.S. theaters on October 25, 2024, followed by a U.K. release on November 29. The film garnered positive reviews, with critics lauding its performances, direction, screenplay, and cinematography. Notably, it was recognized among the top ten films of 2024 by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.

The film's success extends beyond the box office. At the 78th British Academy Film Awards, "Conclave" secured four awards, including Best British Film and and Best Film among them.  The film also received the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast. At the 97th Academy Awards, "Conclave" received eight nominations, including Best Picture, and won Best Adapted Screenplay. "Conclave" holds a "fresh" 93% approval rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, in addition to an 86% audience score.
